Finding Shade, Staying Cool & Settling In — A Simple RV Life Update from Livingston, Texas 🚐

When you’re full-time RVing in Texas, there’s one truth you learn very quickly:
Shade isn’t a luxury — it’s survival.

After enjoying a wonderful 14-day stay at Lake Livingston State Park, it was time to move to a nearby RV park and settle in for the next phase of our Texas chapter. Our first site was beautiful… but it was also sitting directly under the sun, baking at 100+ degrees every single afternoon. Not ideal for comfort, dogs, or human sanity.

Fortunately, a gloriously shady site opened up — and the park owners gave us the green light to snag it. So, in true RV fashion, we got to pack up, move a few spaces over, and transform our living situation from “Texas skillet” to “Texas comfort.” 😄

🚐 Quick RV Pack-Up & Move

Moving just a few sites over sounds simple… but anyone who RVs knows it still takes a little hustle:

  • Slides in
  • Levelers up
  • Power disconnected
  • Hoses unhooked
  • Storage latched
  • Dogs supervising (a critical step)

Once everything was secured, we crept our way to our new shady slice of heaven. And let me tell you — the temperature difference was NOT in our heads. Shade in Texas is worth its weight in gold.

🌳 The Magic of Shade in 100° Texas Heat

The moment we pulled into that tree-covered spot, the whole RV felt different:

  • Cooler air
  • Lower A/C strain
  • Happier dogs
  • Happier people
  • Much less complaining 😄

We instantly felt like we’d just upgraded our RV without spending a penny. Shade truly changes everything in summer RV life, and this move was absolutely worth the 20 minutes of effort.

🐾 A Lakeside Walk With Bella Rose & Dinky

Of course, the pups needed to inspect the new territory.

We took Bella Rose and Dinky for a stroll along the lakeside where:

  • Bella sniffed every blade of grass like a tiny park ranger
  • Dinky proudly led the way, as if he owned the place
  • The breeze off the lake added a perfect cooling touch

These simple walks are some of our favorite moments — just trees, water, and the two happiest dogs on the planet.

🛒 A Quick Trip to Walmart

No RV move day is complete without a Walmart run, right?

We headed into town to grab:

  • Fresh groceries
  • A few forgotten essentials
  • Cold drinks (a Texas must)
  • And maybe… a few “not on the list” items because that’s how Walmart works 😅

Livingston has everything you need within a short drive, which makes RV life here incredibly convenient.

🧺 Laundry Day at the RV Park

Ah yes — the glamorous side of RV living!
Laundry day.

With clean clothes flipping in the dryers and rainclouds staying far away, we powered through the week’s laundry and checked another task off the list. RV park laundry rooms have a way of bringing people together — there’s always someone swapping stories, travel tips, or weather warnings.

🔥 Ending the Day With a Relaxing BBQ Dinner

Once chores were done and the heat eased up, we fired up the grill and ended the day the way RV days should end:

✨ Delicious BBQ
✨ Gentle breeze under the trees
✨ Dogs resting at our feet
✨ Quiet conversation
✨ Peaceful evening light

There’s something truly special about cooking your dinner just steps from your home on wheels.

💛 Final Thoughts

This wasn’t a big travel day or a dramatic adventure — it was a simple RV-life day full of small wins:

  • A shady campsite
  • A bit of fresh air
  • A trip into town
  • Chores accomplished
  • Dinner outside

These are the moments that make full-time RV life feel grounded, peaceful, and real. Not every day is an epic destination — sometimes the best memories come from the everyday rhythms of living on the road.

Psalm 121:7–8 (NIV)
“The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
