In this episode of The Simple Mile, we said goodbye to the peaceful charm of Buffalo, Wyoming and rolled east toward the lively and adventure-filled Rapid City, South Dakota — a route that gave us mountain scenery, open-road thoughts, a few unexpected detours, and that feeling of excitement only travel days can bring.

Buffalo treated us well. Surrounded by mountain views, quiet evenings, and genuine small-town hospitality, it was the perfect place to reset. With fresh coffee brewed, miles added to our hiking shoes, and a renewed sense of calm, it was time to fire up the engine and hit the road once again.

There’s always that moment when you pull away from a place that surprised you — a tiny tug at the heart reminding you that goodbyes are part of the journey. But the road was calling… and if there’s one thing RV life teaches, it’s to move forward with curiosity, not certainty.

🛣️ The Road East — Big Skies, Bumpy Thoughts, & Unexpected Moments

As we cruised through Wyoming toward South Dakota, the scenery shifted like nature was slowly turning the pages for us. The mountains began to soften, the skies stretched wider, and each mile carried that “something new is coming” energy.

Along the way, we found:

• Pull-offs too beautiful to ignore
• Views that reminded us why wheels were worth choosing over walls
• Quiet stretches perfect for thinking, talking, dreaming, and maybe… overthinking just a little

And like all great road trips, there were surprises — the kind that make you say,
“Well… didn’t see that coming, but okay!”

📍 Rolling into Rapid City, South Dakota

Rapid City didn’t wait long to show off its personality. After the natural calm of Buffalo, stepping into a town filled with energy, activity, and new sights felt like flipping the channel from “relax mode” to “ready for adventure.”

Rapid City is part gateway, part playground — surrounded by iconic attractions, national parks, winding roads, and history you can feel. It carries a unique mix of wild west charm, outdoor adventure, quirky roadside fun, and big-trip excitement all in one place.

We arrived tired but inspired, with that happy blend of anticipation and curiosity — the perfect recipe for what’s coming next.
