🌲🐾 A Scenic Nature Walk, Forest Trails & a 10-Hour RV Detour — Chasing Fall Colors Through NY, VT & ME! 🚐🍁
Come along with us on another leg of our fall RV adventure! This chapter includes peaceful trails, beautiful forests, unexpected detours, and our pups leading the way through some of the prettiest scenery the Northeast has to offer.
Our journey took us from Niagara Falls → Adirondack Gateway Campground → a quick pass through Vermont → and finally an overnight stay in Scarborough, Maine… even though that was not the original plan. But hey — that’s RV life for you!
🌲 A Forest Walk at Adirondack Gateway Campground
On September 9th, we rolled out of Niagara Falls Campground and headed east toward Adirondack Gateway Campground in New York. This quiet little park became our home for two nights — the perfect place to rest, recharge, and explore the trails.
We took Bella Rose and Dinky on a beautiful nature walk through the forest. The trail was peaceful, shaded, and full of rich green views. The pups were in their element:
🐾 Bella Rose trotting ahead like the official trail guide
🐾 Dinky stopping to inspect every interesting leaf, stick, and scent
🌲 Tall trees lining the path
🌞 Sunbeams slipping through branches
🍃 The soft crunch of early fall leaves under our feet
Moments like these remind us why we love this lifestyle — simple, quiet, deeply beautiful.
🚐 Leaving New York — And Entering the “Not-So-Planned” Portion of the Trip
On September 11th, we packed up and hit the road toward Onion River Campground in Vermont. According to the map, it should have been a relaxing, easy, 3-hour travel day.
But once we arrived…
It just didn’t feel like the right fit.
And sometimes in RV life, you listen to that feeling.
Instead of forcing it, we kept rolling.
Little did we know… the next campground would end up much farther than expected.
🛣️ A 3-Hour Travel Day Turns Into 10 Hours on the Road
As we continued east, the options grew limited. Campgrounds were full, closed, or too tight for our rig. So mile after mile, we kept going — hoping each next stop would be “the one.”
What began as a simple travel day quickly turned into:
✔ Multiple campground check-ins
✔ Narrow forest roads
✔ Traffic delays
✔ Tired pups (and tired humans!)
✔ Constant rerouting
✔ A little bit of “are we there yet?” energy
But one of the great things about RVing is that home is always with you — even on the hard days.
🌙 Overnight in Scarborough, Maine — Thanks, Walmart!
Just when we needed it most, we found a Walmart in Scarborough, Maine with designated space for RV travelers. It was safe, easy, level, and exactly what we needed after a long day.
We pulled in, settled down, fed the pups, and ended the night grateful we made it — even if the journey was far longer than expected. Sometimes the simplest overnight stops feel like blessings.
