Mountains Ahead Trouble Behind!

Welcome to The Simple Mile RV

A “Poofy Snowstorm,” Dog Walks, and Mountain Magic – Our Trip to Twisp, Washington

Welcome back to The Simple Mile, where our GPS is confident, our planning is loosely optimistic, and our travel adventures are powered by equal parts curiosity, caffeine, and “we’ll figure it out when we get there.”

After wrapping up time in the Spokane area, we pointed our Class C motorhome toward Twisp, Washington — a town we honestly didn’t know a whole lot about, other than the fact that it sounded fun to say. Go ahead, say it out loud. “Twisp.” It’s like someone tried to name a town while sneezing.

As we made our way west, the scenery kept getting better… and better… and then somehow, even better. We should’ve filmed more, but we were too busy saying things like:

  • “Oh wow, look at that!”
  • “Wait, did you see that?”
  • “Was that a vineyard or a winery? And why didn’t we stop?”

The orchards and vineyards along the route were stunning — miles and miles of neatly lined trees and perfect vines that made us wonder if we should’ve brought a fruit basket and a sommelier handbook.

Twin Creeks RV Resort – Twisp’s Cozy Corner

We booked a stay at Twin Creeks RV Resort, and let us just say: Twisp knows how to host travelers. The town was warm, friendly, and had that perfect small-town vibe where everyone smiles like they already know your dog’s name.

Our pups, Dinky and Bella, quickly claimed the place as their personal wilderness retreat. Walks were abundant. Sniffs were plentiful. And we humans happily followed — partly for exercise, partly to make sure no one tried jumping in the river for fun.

Speaking of the river, those riverside dog walks felt peaceful and unforgettable… until nature decided to put on a full-blown cottonwood snow machine demonstration.

It Snowed… But It Didn’t

One of the biggest surprises of our stay was the cottonwood trees releasing fluffy, white seeds everywhere. At first, we thought, “Wow! Snow! Magical!”
Then we remembered: it wasn’t winter.

Within minutes, we found ourselves in what can only be described as a Hallmark movie crossed with a seasonal allergy commercial. Fluffy white poofs floated through the air, landed in our hair, and tried sneaking into the RV like they paid rent.

All we could do was laugh, swat the air gently like confused penguins, and respect Mother Nature for her creativity.

Windthrop + North Cascades = A Must-See Combo

While based in Twisp, we took a day trip to Winthrop (yes, we mispronounced it about three times before getting it right). The town looks like an old western movie set — so much so that we half expected to see a cowboy walk by and challenge us to a duel for the last caramel latte.

From there, we continued deeper into the North Cascades, and let us tell you:
Pictures don’t do it justice.
If mountains could audition for the “World’s Best Backdrop” contest… these would win.

Towering peaks. Stunning overlooks. Air so fresh we considered bottling it and selling it as “Organic Mountain Breeze – RV Edition.”

Worth. Every. Mile.

Heading Back With Full Hearts (And Probably Still Some Cottonwood)

After enjoying the peace, scenery, and unexpected snow-without-snow storm, it was time to wrap up our stay and begin the journey back toward Spokane. We left Twisp feeling refreshed, grateful, and secretly wondering how many cottonwood fluffs were still secretly packed inside our RV storage compartments.

If you ever get the chance to visit Twisp, Winthrop, or the North Cascades, do it. Bring your camera, your appetite, your hiking shoes, and maybe — just maybe — a lint roller.

Until the next mile…
Stay curious, stay flexible, and remember:
the best adventures start with the words, “Why not?”

Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
